► Being a Good Neighbour

Being a Good Neighbour

Once you have moved in to your new home - don’t be shy - introduce yourself to your neighbours. This will help establish and build a positive relationship.  Your neighbours are a source of useful information about your local area, including important information such as when the rubbish is collected, etc.  They may also be able to help to keep an eye on your house during weekends and holidays.

Ensure you respect others living around you.  Inconsiderate noise levels often lead to complaints.

Some pointers to remember:

  • Making the right impression - it is important to establish a good relationship with your neighbours.
  • Respect your neighbours by keeping the noise levels to an acceptable level and let them know if you plan to have a party.
  • Be particularly sensitive if you live alongside young children and older people.
  • Be responsible for ensuring you keep your home and garden free from waste – otherwise it becomes an eyesore or can cause health problems.

Each year the Student Communuty Partnership distribute a “Good Neighbours guide” which is sent to all returning students (approx 12,000) at Bath Spa University and the University of Bath.
