Study Space
Space really is the thorn in the side Bath Spa University. All buildings are now used to near capacity with the introduction of more contact time for students and tutors (which is a good thing in one respect). Getting more space is more difficult than any other location as not only does the University have to get planning permission off the council, but also Prince Charles, the land owner.
Simultaneously another aspect of the academic experience which has significantly grown is group work. It is widely recognised that working in diverse groups is a great way to learn and many subjects have seen a push for groups working together on projects.
Unfortunately the two points above greatly conflict and Bath Spa is facing problems with offering enough space for groups to work together.
This year the Union is looking to get to the route of the problem and want everyone that feels this as an issue to get involved and have their say.
The University have stated that they are looking to develop the Newton Park Campus in the next 5 years, but is this too long a wait? We think so. Additionaly it will be useful to hear the voices of our Sion Hill students and whether they feel they have enough space after the extensive redevelopment of their campus.
Whatever your feelings pass them on to your academic rep and feed into the great debate.
