Nalamdana (meaning 'Are you well?' in Tamil) is an organisation based in Chennai, south India that uses innovative communication methods to provide knowledge about health to illiterate audiences. Response-driven participatory street theatre, interactive games and puzzles, audio and video cassettes, tele-films, small group workshops, television serials Nalamdana explores the full-range of communicative possibilities to reach out to people.
The organisation addresses HIV AIDS prevention and Maternal & Child Health and provides volunteer opportunities on two week working holiday teams. Projects are usually in August and September with application processes closing about 4 months before leaving dates.
Volunteers must pay, or fundraise, around £700, an amount due 1 month prior to departure. The £700 excludes travel to India but includes:
