European Voluntary Service - EVS

European Voluntary Service (EVS) is open to all young people aged 18 -30 and gives volunteers the opportunity to spend between 2 - 12 months getting to know another country, another culture and another language by taking part in a project which contributes to the well-being of a local community. The scheme was created by the European Commission and is delivered through its Youth in Action programme. There are 1000s of volunteer projects available across Europe and beyond. Recent EVS projects that UK volunteers have attended include:

  • Organising environmental activities with children in a nature park in Poland.
  • Supporting a youth theatre in Belgium.
  • Working with homeless people in Italy.
  • Assisting Rangers at a wildlife park in Peru.

EVS provides all funding for volunteers. This includes:Pre-departure training.

  • On-arrival training.
  • Language schools (in the majority of cases).
  • Accommodation.
  • Travel costs.
  • A small living allowance.

Applications can be accepted at any time of year; projects usually start 4 - 6 months after the application process is instigated. For further details,  check out the EVS website.
