The ‘Academic Appeals Procedure’ is in place to offer students the opportunity to oppose a decision made against you concerning your academic studies.
The first stage has the student completing an Appeals Form to the Appeals Committee who will then decide whether or not your case is fit for further discussion.
If successful you will be invited to a hearing with all members of the Appeals Committee present where you are offered the chance to add further evidence to your case, and in turn, be asked questions about your case. You do not have to go this part of the process alone; you are free to bring a friend or family member along with you for support.
The conclusion of your Appeals Committee Meeting will result with one of three results
If successful your procedure will end here with the outcome you desired. If unsuccessful you have the right to further appeal.
Further appeal involves the student appealing to the University Governors (the top of the top). However the appeal will only be considered by the University if the student can successfully demonstrate that they have suffered detriment and the University has failed to comply with the Appeals Procedure.
This concludes the Internal Appeals Procedure, however, if the student is still unsatisfied / unsuccessful they will now be permitted to use the services of the OIA (Office of the Independent Adjudicator).
The OIA is a free service and the organisation basically has your case reviewed by a highly qualified adjudicator. If they agree with your case you will receive very strong support from these professionals.
