Emergency Contraception
It is possible to prevent pregnancy if you had sex without contraception, or you think the method you did use may not have worked:
For this service you can go to:
Emergency Hormonal Contraception (Levonelle) tablets may now be purchased from most community pharmacies by women aged 16 and over. Patients will need to provide the pharmacist, who will handle the request personally, with detailed information in order that the medicine is only supplied in suitable cases. Emergency contraception tablets work within the first 72 hours after unprotected sex, but they are best taken as soon as possible after the event occurs as the effectiveness decreases with time. Detailed professional guidance has been issued by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and a training programme has been attended by over 200 pharmacists in the local area. Emergency contraception tablets supplied at a pharmacy cost around £20. If a pharmacy does not supply emergency contraception they will be able to direct you to an alternative source.
