Things to consider before you arrive:

 Car

Packing: ensure that you leave yourself plenty of time to pack and then check over what you have packed. The last thing you want to be doing on the morning you leave home for university is be worrying whether you have packed all you need. When packing, it is always helpful to write yourself a list of what you definitely need.

Pre-booking: whilst there are several things that you will be unable to organise until you arrive, it may be helpful to organise as much as you can, like booking your FRESHERS’ PASS online for example.

Insurance: An essential thing to remember when coming to university is to get contents insurance, as this is something that is far too easily forgotten but you don’t want to get caught out. The Students' Union suggests that you consider Endsleigh Insurance, who are affiliated with the NUS and offer competitive student quotes. Before paying for any insurance it is worth looking into whether your parents insurance will cover you whilst you are at university.

TV

TV Licencing: You may not be bringing a television to University but if you are it is very important that you remember to get a TV Licence. They tend to be very vigilant on students in halls of residence.

Finances: You should have contacted your Local Education Authority (LEA) and organised your student loan. If you haven’t then you definitely should ASAP! You may also have investigated setting up a student bank account. If you are looking into this it is definitely worth looking around as there will be a variety of offers available to you. It is also worth remembering that there are lots of things to sign up and pay for over the course of Freshers’ week so make sure you budget for vital items such as £88.50 for an ESSENTIAL bus pass for the term, available at the SU office.

Freshers’ Flu: every year many students suffer from this condition, but don’t worry, it is nothing to be afraid of, and definitely should not put you off getting involved. However it is worth thinking about prior to arrival, you may want to bring a stock of paracetamol and lemsip just to make sure.

Online Registration: Long gone are the days of waiting in queues for hours on end waiting to register on your course, thanks to online registration via the student portal you can arrive at University near enough fully registered. It is important that you do remember to do this as you don’t want to be the only person running around trying to sort out your registration whilst everyone else is settling in. Just go to the Bath Spa webite and check out the Student Portal.
