Each year, the Students' Union introduces new blood into the Union with its elections. The Union is run democratically, and the people who run it are chosen by the student body. By holding elections, we are not only fulfilling a constitutional requirement, but also ensuring that we get as many people as possible involved in the Union. The more students we have involved, the more democratic and effective your Union becomes. Despite nurturing our
democratic nature, however, we are also legally bound to hold elections.

The main elections took place in March, when the three sabbatical and Equal Opps post were filled. The Students’ Union Board of Trustees is now recruiting through by-elections for three part time officer posts:

Part-Time Student Officers:
The part-time officers are very important positions and are wholly voluntary. These officers work very hard and dedicate their time and energy to their positions. If elected, you will sit on the Board of Trustees who will oversee the running of the Union and ensure that we are working in the best interest of our members.

There are all sorts of reasons for getting involved with your Union!

Change the world! — Have a direct say in the running and direction of the Union and also get involved in national campaigns and issues that affect students everywhere!

Personal Development — By being involved in a professional organisation, taking on responsibilities and co-ordinating campaigns, you will inevitably develop skills in team work, problem solving, communication, negotiation etc.

FUN!! — It’s great fun, honest. You get to meet, talk and work with lots of like-minded, exciting, passionate people (Yes! I do mean us!). As an elected officer, you get free entry to all Union events (except major events of the year); it’s just our way of saying thanks for all your hard work. The bulk of the Board of Trustees is made up of the three full-time Sabbatical Officers, and four voluntary part-time Student Officers. All of these officers are Trustees of the Union.
