Like most of the Students' Unions across the country, Bath Spa is an affliated member of the National Union of Students (NUS). Dependent on the number of students studying at the University, the Union pays NUS an annual affliation fee. For this fee, the Students' Union subscribes to all NUS activities, including training sessions for staff and Executive members, and most importantly, the NUS card.
From 2006/07, NUS radically changed the way that the NUS card works with the introduction of the NUS Extra card.
Basically, there are now two different types of card; the Democracy card, which simply denotes that you are a member of an affiliated Students' Union, and the Extra card, which provides you with the discounts. However, unlike previous years, you will need to purchase the Extra card, enabling you to get those discounts.
As your Bath Spa ID card acts as your NUS card, the chances of you needing a Democracy card are pretty slim, which means to get discount you will probably need to get an Extra card, costing only £10.
